WINZ funding for therapy/counselling
If your income is below a specified “cut out point”, and you are a NZ citizen or Permanent Resident, you may be eligible for financial assistance for therapy from Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ) in the form of a Disability Allowance. Difficulties with depression, anxiety, stress, for example, may qualify you to apply for this funding. However, your General Practitioner must consider that the difficulty is likely to last more than 6 months if left untreated, and that therapy/counselling would help to alleviate your difficulty.
The allowance provides a certain amount per week that you can use for therapy/counselling. Once you know how much the Clinical Psychologist charges per hour, you can work out how frequently you can go to therapy.
